What is included for free?
Free gives one person a permanent @thelemail.com mailbox with 1 GB. Free Family includes up to six private mailboxes with 1 GB each and one shared @thelemail.com alias. Neither plan needs a payment method or has an expiry date.
When would I need a paid plan?
Choose a paid plan for custom domains, more storage or unlimited aliases. Personal Free does not include custom domains, aliases or other members. Free Family includes up to six people and one shared @thelemail.com alias, with no custom domains.
How does the free shared address work?
Free Family includes one shared alias such as [email protected]. Messages sent there reach the family members you select in their own inboxes. Everyone keeps their own login and personal mail. A custom domain is not required.
Can I pay monthly?
Yes. Every paid plan can be paid monthly or annually on this website, with the same features either way. Annual works out cheaper per month, and each plan card shows exactly how much. App Store and Google Play subscriptions are annual.
What's the difference between the base and Plus plans?
Plans differ in storage, custom-domain counts and operating features. Business tiers also change audit-log retention and support response. Every plan uses the same encryption model.
Can I leave whenever I want?
Yes. You can export your mail as standard MBOX files with the public export tool on your computer. If you use your own domain, you can also move its incoming mail to another provider.

Free and Free Family work on @thelemail.com without DNS setup. To use a custom domain on a paid plan, one person needs access to its DNS settings. Other family or team members just use their mailbox.
What happens if I add people mid-term?
Business is billed per mailbox. Add or remove people and we prorate the difference; you only pay for who's actually using it.
What's the founder rate-lock?
Where we expressly offer it for an annual subscription purchased directly on our website, your price at signup stays fixed while the subscription remains continuously active. It covers annual subscriptions only. It does not apply to App Store or Google Play subscriptions, which follow the store's pricing and price-change rules.
What if I forget my password?
Set up your recovery method and keep it somewhere safe. If you lose both your password and your recovery method, we cannot decrypt your stored mail.
How many custom domains do I get?
Personal includes 1 (3 on Plus). Family includes 2 (4 on Plus). Business includes up to 5 on Team and up to 10 on Business, with more available on request.
How do I pay?
Direct website subscriptions are paid by card through Stripe, monthly or annually. Subscriptions purchased in the iOS app are billed by Apple, and Android app subscriptions are billed by Google Play; both are annual. The store shows its localized price before you confirm and controls that purchase’s renewal, cancellation and refund process. There are no usage fees or paid add-ons.
Change plans at any time. Direct website plan changes are prorated against the unused portion of the current plan; App Store and Google Play changes follow the applicable store rules.
